This ensemble performs extensive repertoire ranging from traditional to contemporary music. Audition is required. For more information, please contact Dr. Catherine Rand at crand@fiu.edu, or 305-348-2497.

The courtside players is a 30 member contingent of musicians from the FIU Marching Band. They perform at select home varsity athletic events and post season tournaments during the spring. Audition is required. Auditions will include sight-reading, and chromatic scale (in the full playing range of your instrument).

A collaboration of the brass choir, clarinet choir, flute choir, percussion ensemble and trombone choir.† Audition is required to join this group. Following the audition, students are placed into ensembles such as quartets, trios etc. This group is designed to help students further their skills on their instrument, develop awareness of musicality, learn about the importance of chamber ensemble playing and experience a variety of chamber music repertoire written for brass. Generally, each player is playing a separate part from the other members of the group, creating an almost solo approach to performing, within the context of an ensemble. This class, along with the performance opportunities presented throughout the semester, builds and reinforces studentís confidence, musicianship and widens their musical spectrum.

The FIU Marching Band actively participates in supporting FIU Athletics.† Drawn from every college on campus, membership offers a fun, challenging, and musically creative environment. The band is open to all students, regardless of major. All members participate during home football games and select away games. If you are interested in the band, please contact us. We would love to hear from you!

Open to all students. Audition is not required. This band, of approximately 50 members, is comprised of both music and non-music majors. They perform traditional and contemporary wind band literature. All students are encouraged to join!

Brass Chamber Music

The brass chamber music experience at FIU is designed to help students further their skills on their instrument, develop awareness of musicality, ensemble skills and experience a variety of chamber music repertoire.† Generally, each player is playing a separate part from the other members of the group, creating an almost soloist approach to performing within the context of an ensemble. This class, along with the performance opportunities presented throughout the semester, builds and reinforces studentís confidence, musicianship and widens their musical spectrum.

The size of each group is based on available instrumentation and playing levels of the students.† Following an audition, students are placed together in ensembles that include brass trios, quartets quintets and sextets.

Brass Choir

The FIU University Brass Choir, under the direction of James Hacker, is designed to help students further their skills on their instrument, develop awareness of musicality, sharpen their ensemble playing abilities and experience a variety of styles from the brass choir repertoire.† The music performed each year will include some of the great antiphonal music from the renaissance period by composers such as Giovanni Gabrieli, and continue through to works by some of the great contemporary composers of present day.† Concentrated rehearsals and performance opportunities presented throughout the semester help to build and reinforce studentís confidence, musicianship and widen their musical spectrum.
